Jul 09, 2023Teresa Guidice's Hairstylist Shares the Details Behind That $10,000 Wedding Hair
We knew Teresa Guidice's weekend wedding to fiancé Luis Ruelas would make headlines for its star-studded guest list and next season's Real Housewives of New Jersey storyline, but surprisingly it was the reality star's bridal hair look that made instant headlines. The star's longtime hairstylist Lucia Casazza spoke with Andy Cohen this morning on his "Radio Andy" show to discuss all of the details behind one of the most talked-about celebrity bridal looks of our time, and the specifics are just as fascinating as the unique hairdo.
While many online comments pointed to Toddlers & Tiaras as a possible inspiration, Cohen jokingly asked Casazza whether the pageant show served as a model, the stylist said no. "I love a Toddlers & Tiara," said the stylist. "The kids are adorable. Who doesn't love a good Honey BooBoo moment? But no, that wasn't my inspo. I wanted her to look like a queen and I wanted her to serve like Italian girl Jersey hair that was appropriate for that gown as well," said the stylist.
When Cohen asked if Guidice requested the biggest hair ever, Casazza responded that the actual inspiration came from Instagram Reel videos the reality star would send her of European brides. "Teresa said my hair has to be over the top," Casazza shared. "Me and Teresa send Reels back and forth to each other all day long. She would send me these hairs that were so elaborate and fabulous and a lot of them were Italian weddings, Mediterranean weddings, like very over the top. Then me, Tre and Gia went to Bridal Styles Boutique in New York, we were there for like three hours. She tried on every hairpiece and every crown, maybe twice. When they put this one on her head, it brought tears to my eyes. I was like this is the crown."
To make the hair larger than life, Casazza said she created a custom piece that was worn under extensions. "What we did was I built a custom built in fusions, so we custom built a head of extensions that we put in. She actually has very long hair, but that all goes away when you curl the hair so we added more extensions to it. We had to use clips. She only had one path of clips, it was more for what was inside the crown," she explained. When asked if it was made of Nerf material, Casazza explained that she sewed together mesh by hand and then added the extension to it. "She had seven bundles of keratin fusion extensions and then one pack of clips. She had three pieces of mesh can, joined together to create volume, and then you know what we do in Jersey, we tease. She actually had over 1,500 bobby pins in her head."
When asked about cost, not including the her the jewelled tiara, Casazza shared it came down to the luxury hair extensions used for the bridal look. "Now for the hair in her head, she had over $7,000 worth of custom luxury hair extensions. That was the hair. Then she also had the styling of that kind of elaboration, which would run about $2,500."
Andy went on to congratulate the stylist for her work creating a newsworthy style. "You really did it and made a big impact," said Cohen. "Most importantly, the bride was happy. So anybody on the phone who's calling in to say you loved it, or you didn't love it…Guess what? It doesn't really matter. The bride loved it."
